A Blimp of an Existence

Continuing on the topic of my previous post "The Giant BlueBerry", people neglect to see how magnificent and enormous our planet and universe actually is, and because of that people neglect to see what is really happening. Form outer space and from far away and our planet and universe looks so peaceful, but in reality - if you zoom in, there are billions of little people just like you and me running around caught up in their own little lives and existences. When I visualize this I imagine our planet with little black dots with yellow shining circles around them - that symbolize each and every single person's existence and being. We are so caught up in our own lives that we very rarely stop and think about the 6 billion others who are doing exactly the same.

That is where "Blimp" comes from - my tiny little spot, or my tiny little mark on this humongous world.

To us our lives and our problems seem so important and great, but if you really sit down and think about it, to everyone else we are all nothing more than other little spots and blimps on the world. How many times do we think about and actually care and try to do something about what is happening to and in the world around us? Our own home and we barely know anything about it. Our own home and we just sit back and watch everything that is happening...maybe let out a gasp or a sigh if it's extreme.

I am asking these questions hoping that readers will be honest, because come on...no body is watching, no body knows what you are thinking, therefore with topics such as these it is best to be completely honest with yourself. People say that you can lie to everyone else but you cannot lie to yourself...I do not believe this. From experience, you can lie to yourself and you eventually start believing these lies. t sounds impossible but it is true. Somewhere, deep down you know the truth, but you have branded it so strongly into your mind, and your have come to feel so strongly about it that you can barely distinguish fact from fiction.

But back to the point of this post. What I am trying to emphasize is that while we are busy little bees running around in our hectic daily lives, we should take a break, pause our routine we have been repeating almost our entire lives, put our to-do lists on hold and actually take a breather and absorb everything else that is happening around us. Even if you decide to do nothing about it, it's good to know what's happening around you.

I heard an interesting quote once (I can't recall who said it): "You cannot change the world but you can change the world around you". I believe this is partly true but I have changed it a bit and made it my personal motto, one which I live by: "You cannot always change the world but you can most definitely change the world around you". I do believe that every single person has the potential and opportunity to change the world in a big way, not everyone uses that potential and what we do with that opportunity is entirely up to us, however, everyone...everyone of these 6 billion people on our planet IS CHANGING the world around them, it's inevitable!

What irritates me the immensely are those people who complain about the conditions in their country yet when the time comes to vote they don't, and the best excuse they come up with is: "I'm just one person, what difference am I going to make?". Every single person counts and that applies exactly the same to the world. All these people helping and doing good, whether in big or small ways are also only just one person. Einstein was just one man yet he contributed so much to modern day science. Mother Theresa was just one woman yet she helped so many people. You do not have to have money or be big and powerful to help and touch people, and you do not have to do good in a typical "charity" sense, you just need the heart and will...besides, these big and powerful people are also only one person - their votes count as one, and they exist just like we do. Also, you do not need to touch the lives of thousands to change the world. Touching one person's life in a small way can mean the world to them, it can mean just as much to them as helping in bigger ways in worse-off parts of the world.

And that is the point I am trying to make - that we focus so much on ourselves that we barely ever stop to take a look around and think about the people around us. If every single person did this and changed their own little surrounding world in their own little way, our world as a gigantic whole would be a much better place already.
